SR22 is not insurance per-say. SR22 is a certificate of financial responsibility or in short, a form that is filled out by your car insurance company. That for is sent directly to the Secretary of State. Usually an SR22 driver will pay more in insurance premiums than a regular driver.
The most common reason people have to get SR22 is because of a DUI/DWI. In most states the driver is required to have SR22 for a minimum of three years from the date of purchase. Once the required time to have the SR22 is over, then the driver can cancel the SR22 filings.
SR22 is more expensive because of two reasons. The insurance company now knows that your state has determined that you are an at risk driver for traffic law violations. Because of this the insurance company will higher your insurance premium. Your insurance premiums will also go up because you have to pay a fee for the SR22. Your insurance company will charge you anywhere from $100-$500 dollars extra for having to fill out the SR22 form and send it to the Secretary of State. They usually send this form to the state every six months. If you fail to pay your insurance policy then your insurance company will notify the Secretary of State of your non-compliance and your driving privileges will be suspended or revoked.

Having your airbags deploy does not mean in anyway that they will total your car out. Insurance companies look at a lot of different factors before deciding whether or not the car is worth repairing.
The first thing that is done after a vehicle crash is that the owner must take the vehicle to a body shop that is approved by your insurance company. The body shop personnel will make a determination of what the cost of the repairs would be and forward that to your insurance provider. Your insurance company will only total out your vehicle if the cost of repair is greater than the value of the car. One of the biggest reasons for totaling out a car is a bent or misaligned frame and complete frontal damage which includes motor and transmission. If your car is totaled out, most larger well known insurance companies will send you a check for the value of the vehicle rather quickly. If you are the at-fault driver of the vehicle than you should expect your insurance premiums to go up depending on the number of claims you've had in the past.

Finding the cheapest car insurance is an answer that is usually different from person to person. There are many factors involved in finding cheap car insurance including, age, sex, type of car insured, insurance history, driving history, credit history and what city the car will be insured in. All of those will be major factors into finding a cheap car insurance that will still provide you with good coverage.
State farm is a well known insurance company, but for some it is too costly. I know people that are insured by State Farm, and they have told me that it is the cheapest car insurance they have found. How is that possible? Well different people get different quotes for the same insurance company and same coverage. That is mainly because every insured person is different.
Lets take State Farm for example. Great all around full coverage on a 7 year old grand-prix is $1500 a year for you. Johnny is paying $900 a year for the same coverage on the same vehicle. How is that possible? The best ways to lower your insurance premiums and get the cheapest car insurance is as follows:
-- Do not purchase expensive cars or sports cars.
-- Do not get convicted of traffic violations within 5
years of getting a car insurance quote.
-- Do not have a car insurance claim within 5 years of
   getting an insurance quote.
-- Try and purchase homeowners insurance with the same
insurance company that insures your car.
-- Get a new car insurance quote every 5 years to keep
the cheapest car insurance company you can find.
-- Car insurance gets cheaper as you get older.
-- Use direct withdrawal to pay for your insurance.
-- Enroll in any special programs the insurance company
   is offering at the time.
-- Get online car insurance quotes to find the cheapest
   car insurance.
Note: If you have other questions relating to insurance or driving safety, you can look into auto insurance at 21st.com to compare quotes and read safety tips.

Comment on Should i purchase insurance when renting a car? by frank

Many people are undecided on whether or not to purchase the optional rental car insurance. I have done plenty of research on this topic and have found some useful information.

Most people renting a car already have there own personal insurance coverage. Most if not all insurance companies will cover you while you are driving a rental vehicle, if the driver has full coverage or comprehensive and collision coverage. Any damage that is sustained to the rental vehicle should be covered by your personal insurance company, thus there is no reason for the optional rental insurance. Drivers having liability only insurance on the other hand should consider purchasing the optional insurance as any damage sustained that is the rental drivers fault will not be covered on the rental car. You should check with your own insurance company and see what they do or do not cover in regards to car rentals. You should also take into consideration the price of your insurance deductible if a claim were made.

Most people do not know that if you are using a credit card to rent you car, that additional insurance coverage may be offered by your credit card company. Drivers should check with their credit card company before renting a car in order to determine what if any protection they will provide you in terms of rental insurance.

Comment on Will liability insurance cover damage from a pothole? by frank

It depends on what kind of vehicle insurance coverage you have. Insurance companies will not let you make a claim for pothole damage if the vehicle is only covered by liability insurance. Liability only is for purposes of meeting the states requirements for insurance coverage to drive legally on public roads. Full coverage insurance on the other hand, will let you make a claim for damages caused by potholes. The driver needs to make a decision if the amount of damages caused is worth making the insurance claim. Drivers must take into consideration the cost of the insurance deductible and possible insurance premium increases versus the dollar amount of damages caused to vehicle. If the repairs include body or frame damage, then an insurance claim might be the proper choice. If the damage is only to a $200.00 tire, then a claim would cost you more than it would to pay out of pocket for the repair.

Comment on How can I control my car insurance cost? by frank

Prices for car insurance can vary greatly from insurance company to insurance company. There are many factors that are out of the control of the consumer, but there are some things that the consumer can do in order to get the best price for car insurance.
Car Insurance companies main concern is "Risk". What risk is that insurance company taking in order to have you as a customer? The most important factors in determining that is: Driving Record, Age, and Type of Vehicle being Insured.
Driving Record: Consumers with a spotless driving record will receive a better insurance quote than a consumer with traffic citations, accidents, drivers license suspensions or revocations. The least risky driver receives the better rate.
Age: The consumers age also plays a major factor in the determination of the cost of the insurance premium. For example: A 16 year old newly licensed driver is statistically more likely to have an accident than that of a 40 year old experienced driver. Increasing Maturity of the driver is rewarded with lower premiums.
Type of Vehicle: They value of the vehicle being insured is also a big factor that is taken into consideration during the insurance quote process. The less a vehicles value is the less the insurance will be for that vehicle. For example: A $15,000.00 Toyota Camry that was recently in a collision that sustained heavy rear end damage will cost less to repair than a $50,000.00 Lexus Luxury sedan that sustained the same heavy rear end damage.
While some factors may be controlled, others just simply cant be avoided. Shopping around for the best car insurance quote is the best thing a consumer can do. Each car insurance company premium will vary greatly from company to company and from time to time. Consumers should re-evaluate there insurance premiums at the end of every years policy. See if there are lower premiums offered by other companies before renewing your current policy. Accidents or traffic citations that are considered a "Risk" from your current insurance provider may not be with another insurance provider, as time passes the "Risk" from those incidents is given less weight.

I believe that you should tell your parents about the ticket. You were only speeding 9mph over the posted limit. In most cases you would not have been ticketed in the first place. As far as court and insurance goes, i would request a court date, go to court, plead guilty and receive court supervision. As long as you do not get another speeding ticket in that time, your insurance company will not find out about your ticket and in-turn not affect your insurance rate.

The driver of the vehicle is responsible for the insurance. If your friend is driving your car and he gets pulled over by the police, the police will issue him a ticket for no insurance, not you. With that being said, the police may also impound the vehicle depending on which state you live in.

Lemon Check - Is the car a Lemon.

Record Check - How many records are in the CarFax Database.

Recalls - What recalls are there from the manufacturer.

While the above information can be interesting, it doesn't really tell you everything you need to know. You are better off running a full CarFax to determine if there are any issues.

You will not be able to get an asnwer to your question on any forum. You must submit info to different insurance companies and get quotes from them. Premiums will be decided on many factors including: Age, Sex, Type of Car, Driving History, etc... Only thing I can tell you is that insuring a 16 year old is going to be more expensive that insuring a 25 year old. Good Luck..
